Cincinnati is well known for its supernatural and haunting activity, and even though we are on the outskirts of the greater Cincinnati area, we fit the stereotype and have haunting activity of our own.
While some say the old Miamitown elementary was haunted, and the 5th grade even offered a midnight paranormal ghost hunting activity as a good behavior activity, closer to home, we have a legend of haunting in the Martin Marietta Theater. The legend goes like this: Miss Marietta, the heiress who the theater is named after, died young after a light fell on her head one stormy night while singing her famous opera style. Now, she haunts the theater, tormenting students.
From toilets randomly flushing, doors slamming and stage lights turning blue, Miss Marietta has shown her presence throughout each production in our theater. An anonymous student stated that as late as mid-November Miss Marietta has shown she’s still walking the hallowed halls of the Activity Center. As this student was walking on the top floor of the theater, she saw a woman walking in a white reflection on the display case, but when that student turned around no one was there.
This certainly is not a one-time thing. During Les Miserables (2021), a student tried to have a conversation with another student in the dressing room, after that student didn’t respond they walked upstairs to find that they were upstairs the entire time. Sources say that the student hadn’t even been in the dressing room that day and was upstairs the entire time
Recently, in newer generations, this story isn’t being told as widely as before. Some think this needs to change. Senior cast member Dakota Roberts states, “We need to keep this story alive, especially being young when it was first told. I feel like it’s a fun tradition to keep alive.”
As the story of Miss Marietta dwindles we have seen her punish the students in her own way. One student states, “Ever since we stopped telling the story, the vocals for our show have declined.” Miss Marietta had been known to punish students who failed to learn their vocals for their shows. It seems she wants all the shows in her theater to be perfect, and now that the story isn’t being told she wants to punish the students in the shows. Hopefully, this article will help her chill out!
