Winter is here, time to hit the slopes!
Skiing is a fun thing to do in the winter. So many people love to ski, and our school happens to have a ski club. We have this club to give kids something to do and have fun with during school. They will take trips to Perfect North slopes, and as a part of the club, students will get a full season winter pass.
High School counselor Mrs. Jenny Barker is the creator of Ski Club here at Harrison High School. The idea for the club started because she has two twin kids at a different school district which has a ski club. It sounded so fun, that she decided start a club here at Harrison. She has had 16 kids join this year in the club’s first year.
Barker’s goal is to double the membership of the club each year for many years to come. Barker said she went skiing for the first time her junior year of highschool, even though she was never taught how to properly ski. She even got a ski set her senior year of high school! Barker stated “when I went skiing my senior year, I had to jump an ice block. When I got over it, there was just mud, and I crashed into another ice block and broke my collar bone”. She swore she would never ever ski again. But years later, in 2019, her husband took her and her kids skiing and taught them all the right way to ski. This made all the difference, and since then, she has enjoyed skiing often.
No matter your experience you can join Harrison High School’s Ski club next year. When you join, you may even get free passes to Perfect North Slopes, so contact Mrs. Barker for more details about this fun new extracurricular offering.
