**UPDATE**
These past few weekends were some of the bests for our indoor track team here at Harrison. They traveled to Louisville Eastern Indoor to compete in a meet and most athletes were able to accomplish a new personal record. It was deemed to be a very competitive meet with well over 50 athletes for both races. They also attended the Ashland High Performance Meet and were able to achieve PRs once again.
For indoor track, an athlete races for their best time in their chosen event. Then, at state competition, the top 24 ranked times get picked (with an exception of provisional times). Because of this competition structure, the racers consistently are working to get and improve their best time throughout the season in order to qualify for state.
Two of our athletes have managed to finish highly ranked within the state two weekends ago! Senior Jayden Thompson ran the 800m and finished with the time of 1:56.16 ranking him 3rd in the state and 57th in the nation. Senior Natalie Kiefer who also runs the 800m finished with a time of 2:17.43 ranking her 6th in the state and 101st in the nation. Natalie reported that she was very nervous before the race, and that after running her hardest, she was dead tired.
This past weekend Natalie was able to shave down over 3 seconds on her 800m, accomplishing a PR of 2:13.97. Jayden was also able to achieve a new PR in the 800m of 1:55.19. With this both of our senior runners have been able to climb their way up the ranks to both currently sit at 2nd for state!
Both seniors have had great weekends with indoor track along with their teammates. We hope to see them successfully qualify for state and advance. Follow the chances of our athletes to qualify for state!
Just a short couple of weeks later both Natalie and Jayden headed off to New York for the Nike Indoor Nationals in New York City. Both running the 800m, Natalie finished in 12th with her 2nd fastest time ever, and Jayden finished in 19th. Natalie was able to complete a 2:11.69 and Jayden had a 1:56.79. This is a huge deal to have our Harrison athletes compete on the national level and a great way to show our school’s strength. Congratulations to both for a fantastic indoor track season and best wishes as they prepare for their upcoming outdoor track season.
