For the third year, some of Harrison High School’s most talented artists competed in a city-wide Plein Air Art Competition. Local participants were Grace Ludwick, Ashlee Roell, and Sam Todd. ‘Plein’ is part of a French phrase meaning “in open air,” and in this competition students work from life in an outdoor setting using only the limited materials to create their own interpretation of the location.
This year, artists met in Spring Grove Cemetery and used only the materials provided to interpret their surroundings into stunning art. After being judged by professional artists of the Cincinnati Art Club, four levels of cash prizes were given out, including the Artist Choice Award.
In Sunday’s competition, Senior Grade Ludwick won 4th place overall, a huge honor for our school and our art program. She received a $1500 scholarship to attend an art camp and a $100 cash prize, in addition to the $1000 Arts Camp 2025 Scholarship Certificate received by all the Harrison participants.
The artwork from this competition will be displayed at an exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Club, in the Herman & Bessie Wessel Gallery on September 29 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. This reception is open to the public, and awards will be given out at 3:30. Congratulations to the Harrison student artists that competed this year!
