We all have had Girl Scouts come up to our doors and try to sell us those thin mints or lemon-ups. And while many people have turned them down, the Harrison Paw Print staff got a hold of all the different assortments of girl scout cookies to do a taste test to find the best one.
Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies. Yum? Apparently not, as it is widely regarded as the worst cookie brought out that day. Described as your regular trefoil in between thick and dry peanut butter. As said by an anonymous staff writer in the Paw Print, “This cookie is thick and dry, making SOOO HARD to chew. It all sticks to the roof of your mouth and it makes it not a very enjoyable experience. The peanut butter taste wasn’t that bad, though.” Caps lock notwithstanding, this review does a great job summarizing how the cookie really was: Incredibly disappointing and too tough to eat.
Lemonade was the next one that many people didn’t enjoy. While it carried that fresh taste that lemonade holds, some people didn’t think that it fit the cookie. One of our staff writers who shall not be named said “Lemon cookies always disappoint me.” This person put it in such a concise way that they do NOT like the lemon cookie whatsoever, however, another one of our staff claimed “The lemonades cookie is very good, I personally have never had it before, but it tastes amazing. It’s very soft and flavorful and honestly isn’t dry like I thought it would be.” These two quotes from our staff gives us that feeling of a love-hate relationship with the Lemonades cookie.
Positive reviews may not be a relic of lost time, as the Adventureful Cookies received what little love that the previous cookies didn’t. With quotes as enthusiastic as, “AMAZING 5 BIG BOOMS!!! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” It became clear that a majority really responded well with these. However, it was not the best, not even close. It didn’t even make it to the top three.
The most basic cookie on this list, the original girl scout cookie, the Trefoil, was next in our ranking. This one is the cookie that everyone both enjoyed and disliked, this is due to its bland nature but yet that original taste of the girl scout cookie that everyone loved as a kid. A staff writer responded to the taste of the trefoil saying: “So classic, so good. The texture is so crumbly, and it melts in your mouth. Would it be better with chocolate? Maybe. But it is pretty amazing as is.” This is telling us that even though it is liked it can always be better.
You’d think that Toast-Yays, a cinnamon cookie with all that you could ever ask for, would end up with a higher ranking. Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve, since apparently it didn’t hit exactly the right spot, as it barely cracked the top four. It did, however, gain some popularity points with its taste being similar to Cinnamon Toast Crunch. This being so similar to the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch made one of our staff writers reminisce on the taste of the cookie, here is what they had to say; “This one is reminiscent of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and has a really good taste to it. I feel like I could eat 5 boxes in one sitting.” Suffice to say, the good taste did not reflect in the rankings.
The peanut butter patty is the better version of the peanut butter cookie according to the staff of The Paw Print. Even though this is one of the liked ones it still had some mixed reviews, for example someone from our staff stated, “The outside of this cookie had a weird texture. It felt like a microfiber towel. The taste is overwhelming yet also tastes bland at the same time. Just not a good option compared to the rest of these.” However, some others seem to think differently about this cookie saying stuff like “it’s probably the best peanut butter cookie ever ever had. Better than actual peanut butter.” This cookie was really hard to put in the spot it deserves due to all the mixed reviews on it.
Girl Scout Cookies have been around for about 108 years, and for 86 of those years, Thin Mints have dominated the market. With its nationwide popularity, you’d think that it would score higher than it did. Disappointingly, its reputation does not reflect its taste test ranking. However, a lot of people still take a liking to the cookie, “There’s a reason these are the most popular, they are so good.” Unfortunately, some people have some very prominent issues with the cookie itself, “Mint never belongs on chocolate, and this just tastes like it would make your stomach hurt. I could see the appeal, though. It’s not the worst and it definitely appeals to some people.” Harsh, but is it too harsh? It made it to the top two, an unimpressive feat for an overrated cookie.
And finally, the cookie that got the number one spot out of this whole entire rating of the taste of the girl scouts’ cookies everyone loves…except the peanut butter sandwiches, those deserve last. These ones had rarely ANY bad inputs on it. Some might even call it the queen of girl scout cookies, for instance a staff writer replied to the poll and said this about the Caramel Delite Cookies; “The undisputed queen of the Girl Scout Cookies, the Samoa combines a perfect shortbread cookie texture with amazing caramel. The chocolate and coconut are just the icing on this very delicious cake. This is peak cookie!” Someone really enjoys this cookie, and as they should! It was the best one on this list.
Sometimes it’s not about how the cookie tastes, but about how it makes you feel. Disgusted, sick, happy, or even delighted. Flavors have the ability to unlock a memory and I’m sure most of us have those memories as a kid hearing a knock at the door and seeing a girl scout trying to get you to get your parents to pay $10 for 6 cookies in a box.
