Updates to Activity Center Walking Schedule

The Activity Center Track has been open to the public during the day for many years. This year, the schedule has changed to focus on student safety.

While the old schedule allowed people to walk on the track during the school day, this will no longer be allowed during the middle of the day, when classes meet at the Activity Center. The track will be open on school days from 7-9 am and 3-9 pm. On weekdays when school is not in session, the track will be open from 7 am-9 pm. The track will remain closed on weekends and holidays. There will also continue to be times when the track is closed due to sporting events or other activities.

The reason for the change is student safety. The district works hard to limit access to the buildings while students are in them, and this policy needed to be implemented consistently across all district buildings that have students learning in them. This change brings the Activity Center into line and helps protect the many students who take classes at the AC.

Cyrella Maxfield, the AC Custodian, believes that the change will be better for students. While she reports that the usage of the track is down for now, as people get to know the new schedule, she thinks the numbers will bounce back by winter.
