Harrison High School has a lot of elective classes already that are pretty interesting. There are many collaborative classes like yearbook, journalism, marine biology, anatomy, physiology, and MANY more. But a few more classes wouldn’t hurt, right?
A feature of a sculpting class at Harrison would allow students to further bring out their creativity and add another type of expressive class aside from ceramics and art. Students could also use their imagination with more music related classes, like music production or songwriting. It’s an easy class to get more students to learn more about the music industry and history. Plus, it’s a class that would easily be filled since there was one in the past that was eventually cancelled.
Many students also show interest in elective classes that would prepare them for the future. Driver’s education is a class that would teach students the way of the roads. It’s very beneficial and would be helpful to people who have and haven’t started driving yet. Drivers ed programs now cost around $600-$800 and have to be done privately. A class to help save money and being able to take this class at school for a much lower fee would be beneficial to many students and their families.
In addition to driver’s ed, there are several other career prep classes that kids at Harrison would like to see. In the past, the school had a class for future teachers, but we haven’t had that for several years so bringing it back would be helpful and very much appreciated. Classes to get students ready for careers they want to do later in life has also been something widely expressed.
While there are classes that could be added to schedules, there may be more in Harrison’s course options than you may think. One responded to the poll asking for a law-based class for future politicians, lawyers, or policemen. Little did they know, we’ve got that! Going over course options an extra time or taking a minute to look into every section would benefit lots of students and help people figure out more about our school.
