Harrison Press Students of the Month

Harrison High School is happy to announce Lauren Phillips as one of April’s Harrison Press Students of the month. Some of Lauren’s extracurricular undertakings include being involved with DECA and HOSA, as well as being a student athlete and a part of the District Champion Girls Soccer Team. She reached state in both programs, while continuing on to make nationals in DECA. She also holds a significant leadership position in both DECA and HOSA, a remarkable feat for someone involved in both business programs! Lauren’s advice for her peers is, “Grades will fade, but the effort you put in shapes who you become. Give your best and your future self will thank you.”
Many of Lauren’s teachers and coaches had great things to say about her. Kelli Bill, the Harrison Girls Soccer Coach, said, “Lauren has made some remarkable contributions. She is an exceptional human being and a hard worker in the classroom. Additionally, she excels in her extracurricular activities as well. Lauren stands at the top of her class and was a proud member of the District Champs Girls Soccer Team at Harrison. Additionally, she is actively involved in 4-H, DECA and HOSA. The thing that stands out the most is her selflessness which truly makes her a bright light at Harrison High School. As she prepares to head off to college in the fall, I have no doubt that she will continue to achieve amazing things.”
Philip Deak had only great things to say about Lauren, commenting, “I was privileged to teach her in AP class. Lauren is a gem to have in class. She is everything that you want in your students. She works hard, participates, and strives to get good grades.”
Trevor Ward, a Harrison DECA advisor, also expressed appreciation for Lauren and her many feats, stating, “Lauren Phillips has developed into a leader amongst her peers. Lauren was instrumental in planning, organizing and executing our DECA Fall Leadership Conference for over 500 DECA Students in the Cincinnati area. Lauren comes to class every day with a positive attitude and is a pleasure to have in class. She is very hard working and driven to be successful. Indiana University is getting one of our best!”
Dustin Dersham, also a DECA advisor here at Harrison, commented, “Lauren is one of the most mature and level-headed students I have ever encountered. She has been a tremendous leader in our DECA program without holding a leadership title. She has a very bright future ahead of her!”
Courtney Donath detailed how, “Lauren Phillips has a fantastic work ethic — she comes to class ready to learn every day. She asks great questions, works very well with her peers, and is a kind, humble, genuine person.”
With these amazing remarks in mind, it’s clear that Lauren is a stellar student and is very deserving of this award. We thank her for making our school a better place every day!

Harrison High School proudly selects Lauren Leurck as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the Month. Lauren excelled here on Harrison’s campus for her first three years of high school, and chose to leave campus her senior year to take CCP classes at Miami Hamilton. While taking college classes, she has still stayed involved in volleyball and FCA here in Harrison.
The teachers and coaches who worked with Lauren over the years had amazing things to say about her. Volleyball coach Philip Deak shared, “I had the honor to coach and teach Lauren; I was fortunate to see how amazing she is almost every day. Lauren is everything you want as a student and an athlete. She is dedicated to her family and God, and that is obvious in how she treats everyone she comes into contact with. In all my years as a coach, she is the hardest worker I have had, in the classroom and on the court. I cannot wait to see what she does in college because I know it will be amazing.”
During her first three years at Harrison, Lauren was involved in DECA, qualifying at the state and national level. Advisor Dustin Dershem says, “ Lauren is just an all-around beautiful young lady. She always represents her family, her school, and herself in the best light possible. Sadly we lost her from DECA this year due to her desire to take CCP classes, and her absence from our program was definitely felt!”
English teacher Tricia Evanson taught Lauren her sophomore year, and remembered her as a student who improved classroom discussions through her brilliant insights. “She works so hard and brings her passion for life to everything she does,” Evanson said.
Lauren Leurck’s advice to her peers is, “Find your path by always advocating for yourself because there are so many teachers and peers excited to help you reach your goals. I am so excited to continue my pathway to college, and I am so thankful for all of the support I have been blessed with.” We cannot wait to see what Lauren Leurck accomplishes in her future endeavors!
