Harrison High School welcomes Erin Purcell English teacher, Yearbook, and ACT prep… she does it all- so let’s get to know her.

Ms. Purcell is new staff this year at Harrison’s English department. Purcell’s goals when it comes to her classes are, “The English classes seem pretty self-evident; my goal is to help students advance their communication and comprehension skills with written and spoken language. My role as Yearbook advisor is partly that of a teacher and partly that of a project manager. I introduce students to the basics of journalism, photography, interviewing, and digital storytelling while organizing and delegating to students all the tasks necessary to put together a yearbook. ACT Prep involves familiarizing students with the ACT test structure and helping them brush up on tested content. I really appreciate that ACT Prep gives me the opportunity to branch out from English and work with content from other subject areas a little bit.’’

Previously, she taught 7th grade English and subbed long term for 8th grade. Along with the education train, she was a high school college access counselor, with ESOL classes for adults.

From one circus to another (aka Harrison high school) she says she’s excited to be here, unlike the majority of the students at 7:45am, but that’s the spirit! “I’m excited to be at Harrison! It’s pretty remarkable how welcoming every single staff member I’ve talked to has been. So many people have offered to help and filled me in on information about the school and community. While I’m definitely busy preparing for four different courses, I’m optimistic about the opportunities to learn and expand my teaching skillsets here.”

One fun fact about Ms. Purcell, she is a quad-drupelet. Two other sisters and one brother. They all live in Cincinnati. Harrison High School welcomes you, Ms. Purcell!
