September Students of the Month

Congrats to Mackenzie Drew and Isabella Sparks
September Students of the Month
Mackenzie Drew

Harrison High School proudly selects senior Mackenzie Drew as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the Month. Mackenzie is involved in many extracurriculars at Harrison including Varsity Girls’ Tennis and National Honor Society. Outside of school, Mackenzie is involved in competitive dancing for Lucid Legacy Dance.

Mackenzie received positive comments from several of her teachers. Math teacher Melanie Siemer said this about Mackenize: “Mackenzie is a very sweet student and a hard worker!  She knows how to have some fun in class but never lets it interfere with her work.  I am enjoying teaching her this year!” And math teacher Courtney Donath added this as well: “Mackenzie’s kindness and down-to-earth personality make her a great addition to any class. She comes in ready to work hard each day, and she leads by example wherever she goes.” Way to go Mackenzie!

But not only her teachers had positive messages about Mackenzie, Varsity Tennis Coach Dave Williams had this to say: “Mackenzie has had a great senior tennis season. She is a leader on and off the court. She exemplifies excellence on and off the court, by the way she carries herself. Congrats Mackenzie to a wonderful senior year.”

Mackenzie’s advice for her fellow students is “No matter how hard things get, never give up on yourself!

Mackenzie is a great student, athlete, and person. Best of luck to her in whatever college she decides to attend and any other future endeavors.

Isabella Sparks
Isabella Sparks

Harrison High School is proud to select Isabella Sparks as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the month. She is involved in school activities like Student Council, Track, and Spanish Club.

Her achievements do not end there, however. Teachers love her. The drive she brings to the classroom is unmatched. “Isabella is the type of student who comes to school prepared. She is prepared to excel academically; she is prepared to make interesting and insightful comments in class discussions; she is prepared to walk the hallways with a cheerful smile for everyone. She uses her poise and confidence to reach out and serve others.” English Teacher Tricia Evanson commented. “Isabella Sparks is so pleasant to have in class. She is consistent and happy. She works hard and is very cordial too. A great young lady to have in class!” Spanish Teacher Patricia Martini stated.

Outside of the classroom, she is an excellent leader. Social Studies Teacher and Junior Class Advisor Connor Thomas said that Isabella “did an AMAZING job of talking to local business to raise money for the junior class homecoming float. She did this all on her own [showing] leadership and ownership.” Our district centers itself on its core values of Trust, Respect, Ownership, and Leadership. Thomas went on to say that ”Isabella is such a hard-working and conscientious student. She is a trustworthy and terrific leader who I can always count on to set a great example.”

Math teacher Courtney Donath also praised Isabella. “Isabella Sparks – I’ve been lucky to know Isabella since she was in 8th grade. She is a very hard worker in the classroom, but she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s one of the few students who regularly smiles/laughs at my jokes — it may be out of pity, but I wouldn’t know the difference! She is always smiling and ready to say ‘hello.'”

When asked what advice she would give to other students, Isabella gave one of her life mantras: “Live obsessed, stay real, don’t waste your shot, because nothing changes until you do.”

Congratulations, Isabella! Thanks for living our core values and representing our school so well.
