This summer was full of exciting upgrades to our athletics facilities. Improvements include the resurfacing of the track and tennis courts, the addition of a spectator area at the tennis courts, and VIP parking spots for Athletics Booster supporters. Support for our student athletes is an important part of being a wildcat, and most were funded with no taxpayer dollars used.
Every improvement made has noticeably increased our school pride, such as the brand new green added to both our track and tennis courts. When asked if we should expect to see more green in the future, our athletic director Mr. Meibers explained how he loves the green and the vibrance but there is not much left to turn green. On the same subject he said, “The baseball fields have the green grass, but the dirt is dirt.”. However, we may see some fresh green paint in the future.
Continuing with the topic of new improvements, the tennis courts have received a fresh new spectator area for the better viewing opportunities. However, some viewing areas still need some revamping. When asked if we may see some repairs added to our seating in the Wildcats Sports Arena, Meibers said that there are no plans from the athletic department or boosters, and if we see any changes it would come from our district.
Another accommodation that we provide for our fans are the VIP parking spots, which occupy about 40 to 50 for a school year, a few years, or even a lifetime. The VIP spots are one of the many ways we fundraise in order to enhance our school’s athletic department.
According to Meibers, each project can span over 3 months, requiring sacrifice from the crew that creates them. Our head of the grounds, Mr. Deller, is to thank for keeping our facilities in their amazing shape. He keeps it looking clean and helps Meibers to spot any possible problems “for our athletes to have the best facility possible.” These projects are the time, money, and effort they take to show our appreciation for the student body and create future opportunities for growth in sports.
