Alex Strong: Engineering His Way Through High School

Harrison High School proudly selects sophomore Alex Strong as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the Month. The son of Jennifer and Micah Strong, Alex is strongly involved in the school’s engineering and robotics programs, as well as JV golf. Angela Elsasser, Robotics teacher, says, “Alex has consistently impressed me with his dedication to engineering, problem-solving skills, and leadership potential. His passion for robotics was evident early on.” Alex is currently in his third year of VEX Robotics, competing in Dallas for Worlds each year. He is in the top 3% of the world for match play. To help teach others about robotics, he also helps with a two week long summer camp to teach younger kids about robotics and basic engineering skills. After high school, he hopes to go into either mechanical engineering or entrepreneurship/business. Elsasser continues, “Alex’s insatiable curiosity drives him to research building techniques and robotics mechanisms independently.  When faced with challenges, Alex is relentless in finding solutions, often staying late and arriving early to ensure the robot’s success. This dedication is reflected in his accomplishment of leading the team to the VEX World Championship in Dallas for two consecutive years – a feat he aims to repeat!  In the classroom and robotics club, Alex consistently demonstrates exceptional problem-solving skills and a positive attitude that fosters collaboration.” Tricia Evanson, Alex’s English teacher his freshman and sophomore year, states “Alex is an outstanding English student. His work ethic and intelligence make me excited to see what he does in the future.” Alex wants others to know to do what makes you happy, and that hard work pays off.
