Ashlyn Fuhrmann: Singing, Dancing, and Writing her way to College

Harrison High School proudly selects senior Ashlyn Fuhrmann as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the Month. Ashlyn, the daughter of Justin and Melissa Fuhrmann, is heavily involved both inside and outside of school. Some of her involvements include a cappella, choir vice president, drama president, NHS treasurer, Spanish Honor Society, Shakespeare Club, Journalism editor-in-chief, student director/choreographer for Jr. High drama, community theatre, and dance and voice lessons. She does all of this on top of her job at Kroger. Her future plans include going to college for a BFA in musical theatre and moving to New York City. Tricia Evanson, journalism advisor, says that, “She has been an integral part of bringing student journalism back to Harrison High School, leading our staff in brainstorming, writing, editing, and publishing 8 issues to date…The amount of things Ashlyn does well would be amazing for a high-functioning adult, and the fact that she is doing all of these things at this level as a high school student is simply staggering. Ashlyn makes the groups she is a part of better through her massive level of dedication and talent. I can’t wait to see what she does after high school!” Jeff Nienaber, AP Capstone teacher, commented, “Ashlyn is an incredibly insightful student. Her writing reflects her genuine curiosity and a passion for learning.” Anna Adams, choir teacher, has watched Ashlyn’s growth and leadership in class over the last 5 years. She states that Ashlyn, “somehow still manages to keep her academics at the forefront while also succeeding in all of her other involvement. It has been a pleasure watching Ashlyn succeed, grow, and help shape our choral and drama departments through her various different roles over the years. To say that Ashlyn will be missed after she graduates would be quite the understatement, but until then I am excited to see what more she continues to accomplish this year!” One piece of advice Ashlyn would like to give to her peers is, “Life won’t just fall on your doorstep, you have to go out and look for it, and that’s okay!”
