Harrison Press November Students of the Month
Harrison High School proudly selects senior Kiersten Saxon as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the Month. Kiersten is a very involved student with many different extracurricular activities on her plate. She is involved in Drama and Symphonix A capella. Outside of school, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family and serving with and at her church.
Several of Kiersten’s teachers had glowing things to say about her. Spanish teacher Molly Hasenor said that over the past three years, “it has been amazing to watch [Kiersten’s] confidence in using the language grow. She is kind, compassionate, and has a bright future ahead of her!”
Business teacher and DECA advisor Trevor Ward said this: “Kiersten is an absolute joy to have in class. She brings a positive contagious attitude to class every day. Kiersten has a very positive future ahead of her and I am excited to see the great things she is going to accomplish!” To add onto this, history teacher Eric Meyer said that “Kiersten is always a light of positivity, especially in the morning! She approaches everything she does with a smile and an undeterred motivation to be the best version of herself every day. She truly is a servant leader…as much as she wants successes in her life, she puts the needs of others before hers.”
Perhaps the most positive comment came from choir instructor and Symphonix director Ryan Hutcherson who said this about Kiersten: “Kiersten Saxon consistently models our core values with trust in her consistent commitment to Symphonix, respect for her fellow peers, ownership in her role as a senior, and leading the group by working to organize having Symphonix perform at the upcoming Veteran’s Day Assembly. She always strives for her best and models a great balance for academic growth as a musician and the importance of social camaraderie to make Symphonix a joyful place to be at.”
Her advice for her fellow students is “Be kind and have fun, because high school really does fly by.”
Harrison High School is proud to present Madison Brooks as one of this month’s Harrison Press Students of the month. Maddie is a part of Hope Squad and dances outside of school.
Maddie is a proud member of Harrison Highschool’s Hope Squad and is responsible for planning the Miracle Minute for Suicide Prevention. Her spearheading of this activity, earned praise from Sandy Kauffman, Harrison’s Mental Wellness Specialist who stated “Maddie’s leadership role with planning, organizing and executing the Miracle Minute for Suicide Prevention was outstanding.“ Maddie is dedicated and devoted to her role as a member of Harrison’s hope squad, Kauffman commenting “… her commitment to our mission of spreading positivity at school and in the community is incredible.” Maddie undeniably brings a light to Harrison.
In the classroom, Maddie represents Harrison’s core values graciously. And her teachers have taken notice, English teacher Jon Motsinger commented that “Maddie Brooks is the best kind of friend someone could have; she goes the extra mile to help people and rejoices when they find success.” Social studies teacher Eric Meyer adds even more, praising Maddie’s constant willingness to uplift others “Maddie has a magnetic personality that is honest and genuine to her core. She uses that personality to make any interaction a more positive experience for anyone involved.” Maddie backs up her kind heart with a fierce mind. “She is a curious learner, who brings a growth mindset to the classroom every day.” But, in the end, Meyer praises Maddie’s heart “She cares deeply for her peers and is someone that people trust to always have the best intentions with everything she does and treat people with kindness and empathy.”
In closing, Maddie’s advice is profound and heartwarming “Always be true to yourself. Don’t conform to social norms to fit in…you have to be your truest self in order to give your best to the world.”
Thank you, Maddie, for representing our school so well!
