Almost the weekend? It must be time for exploding pumpkins and spinning bowls of water. Friday demos have been a highlight of many students’ year as they take chemistry and AP chemistry with Mr. Andy Zureick. Due to this, the Friday demo’s weekly fun has become a school tradition that many look forward to each week.
Zureick has done Friday demos for the past 8–10 years. “When I was doing my student teaching, I picked up this book called Chemistry Magic,” Zureick states. And although it is a more simplistic demo, his personal favorite Friday demo is Bending Water. When asked his motivation behind doing Friday demos, he stated, “The demonstration goes along with the class as well as giving students something to be excited for.”
Many students speak of loving many of the weekly demos, such as exploding pumpkins and the Turkish waiter. After speaking to several current Chemistry and AP Chemistry students, this is what they had to say:
“Mr. Zureick’s Friday demos are definitely the highlight of my day, especially because for AP Chem, he does different demos sometimes, and it’s really cool to hear the explanation behind the demos.” – Kacey Jacobs (senior)
“Mr. Zureick’s Friday demos allow for a fun and interactive way to learn more about science and everyday things.” – Kiersten Saxon (sophomore)
“The Friday demos give me something to look forward to throughout the week, and I always go into class excited on Fridays.” – Gabe Ashcraft (sophomore)
Zureick’s Friday demos have continued to bring fun and joy to students for almost a decade, making themselves a focal point of students’ weeks. If you are on the fence about taking chemistry, in the upcoming years, take the opportunity and see some amazing demos!
