Wrestling Seasons Like No Other

Wrestling+Seasons+Like+No+Other

While the boy’s wrestling program has been around forever, the newer girl’s program has managed to bring great pride to Harrison High School in their few years of existence. The girl’s team has set impressive stats with getting 5th their first year, 1st the next two years, and 2nd the fourth year.

At this year’s state tournament 12 of our athletes, 8 girls and 4 boys, powered through their competitors to transcend district and regional play and make it to the state competition. This year we had 4 state placers on the girls’ team and 1 on the boys’ team. On the girls side we had Chloe Dearwester at 1st, Raegan Briggs for 3rd, Leah Willen for 5th, and Lilly Kinsel for 8th. On the boy’s side we had Wyatt Brock for 4th.

Harrison’s wrestling program had 7 seniors this season, 3 boys and 4 girls. Our seniors include Chloe Dearwester, Lilly Kinsel, Raegan Briggs, Jessica Edwards, Cohl Wandsnider, Troy Metzger, and Cam Wong. Cohl will be wrestling at Wheeling University after high school.  Additionally, when asked about graduation, Lilly Kinsel responded, “nervous but ready for what’s next.”

Chloe Dearwester will be continuing her wrestling career at Presbyterian College, also majoring in education and art. She’s ending her high school career with an astounding record of 155 high school wins and only 1 loss. She has been undefeated for 3 straight years. She was the first ever female state champion for our school. She is a 4-time state qualifier, placer, and champ.

As the season concluded it’s clear that both teams managed to accomplish an ample amount and both had great seasons as a whole, with the girls being undefeated in dual meets and the boys being crowned SWOC champions. We hope for many more years like this one.
