If you live in Harrison, you’ve probably been to Kings Island at some point in your life. Kings Island has some of the best roller coasters; but which of the 15 roller coasters at the park will take the crown?
The WORST Rollercoasters at Kings Island
Of course, every rollercoaster has downsides to it, but one rollercoaster that many people seemed to dislike more than the rest is The Great Pumpkin Coaster. This may be because The Great Pumpkin Coaster is generally considered a kiddy-ride and doesn’t have many thrill factors. If you are not a 3-year-old riding your first rollercoaster, The Great Pumpkin Coaster will not satisfy your boredom; you may want to broaden your choices.
Another rollercoaster that many unappreciated is the The Bat. Compared to the other big and scarier roller coasters, The Bat isn’t very intimidating. This is likely the reason many people don’t favor this ride. Similar to The Great Pumpkin Coaster, The Bat doesn’t have as many thrill factors as some people would prefer. There are some great additions to The Bat though, for an example, as the ride is operating you may feel as if you are flying due to the rollercoaster cars hanging from an overhead track; causing the car to swing outwards as you are turning. Other than that, The Bat isn’t very entertaining, though, this isn’t the worst rollercoaster on the list.
Invertigo is by far the worst rollercoaster at Kings Island, and I am clearly not the only one who feels this way since the ride is scheduled to close. This ride may have been loved by tons but I believe it is by far the worst roller coaster on Kings Island. Invertigo looks fun a first glance, don’t be fooled though, this rollercoaster is painfully unbearable. You are constantly being jerked around as your head slams against the seat, and your legs swing in every direction imaginable. Once the ride is over, you are left with a vicious headache and completely unsatisfied. Everyone’s experience is different, but many people would agree that Invertigo is by far the worst roller coaster on Kings Island.
The BEST Rollercoasters at Kings Island (Ranked)
Starting off strong with 5th place is the rollercoaster loved by all: Orion. Orion made its first appearance on July 2, 2020, and is still fairly new at Kings Island. This rollercoaster is loved and appreciated by thousands of people across Cincinnati. Many people claim Orion is their favorite due to the smoothness and height of the ride. According to Kings Island, Orion is the tallest ride in the park, reaching 287 ft with a 300 ft drop! Although, Orion is an extremely popular ride, it does have some cons to it. Orion may be a smoother ride but if you are on the smaller side, you might find yourself flying out of your seat, which can ruin the experience.
Coming in fourth place: The Beast. The classic Beast is one of the oldest rollercoasters at Kings Island (1979) and what the park is best known for. The Beast has an elevation of 110 ft and the ride is much longer than your typical coaster. Usually, rides only last around 1 minute, but The Beast lasts a full 4! Although The Beast is loved by many, wooden coasters tend to be more aggressive than other roller coasters which can be uncomfortable when riding. The Beast is a great ride, but being so old, it has complications. As you are patiently standing in line waiting to get on the rollercoaster you’ve heard many people talk about, you may find yourself waiting for what seems like centuries just to get on! The Beast is constantly shut down for whatever reason, which can be aggravating, but once you get on, it’s definitely worth it.
On to the top 3. In third place: Flight of Fear. Flight of Fear is a unique, Area-51 themed indoor rollercoaster on Kings Island. It has an elevation of 74 ft with a speed of 54 mph. What makes this ride so special is the fact that it’s the only indoor rollercoaster at the park. The design adds an element of surprise since you’re unable to see anything as you ride it. Flight of Fear has a total of four inversions which can make it extremely thrilling to ride! Other than a mild headache when you get off, this coaster is pretty entertaining.
Next, the runner up: Diamond Back. Diamond Back is the second tallest rollercoaster at Kings Island with a peak height of 230 ft. Diamond Back is loaded with spins and drops that make it incredibly fun to ride. As the ride speeds toward the finish riders are blown through a splash of water which can either be incredible, entertaining, or ruin your hair. Everyone has ridden Diamond Back at least once, and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?
Lastly, what you all have been waiting for, coming in first place…Banshee. Banshee is my personal favorite along with many others according to the data gathered from the poll. This coaster has a distinctive theme of a wailing, mythological messenger from the underworld with flowing white hair and gleaming eyes. Banshee has an elevation of 167 ft and a speed of 68 mph. What Banshee is mainly known for is replacing the famous Son of Beast; when Son of Beast was demolished and shut down in 2009, shortly after it was replaced with Banshee in 2014. Banshee is now one of Kings Islands best rollercoasters and will continue to be that for a long, long time.
