Who is winning in a fight: Santa and his elves, or witches and skeletons? This time it is definitely the witches and skeletons. According to the students, Halloween is definitely the best holiday.
A Paw Print poll asked Harrison students what they thought about holidays. Halloween came in first, and in second, we have Christmas. Comparing these results with America’s most favorite holiday we have Christmas in first and Thanksgiving in second. These results are quite different compared to what students at Harrison think. Now why are the most popular holidays at Harrison Halloween and Christmas? Let’s find out why from what the students here say about it.

Pumpkins glow in the night, witches cackle as they fly upon their brooms, skeleton bones rattle in the distance, and houses are decorated to scare off anyone who dares to enter. Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated on the 31st of October, starting with people lighting bonfires and wearing costumes to ward off evil spirits is now a night where children and teens dress up in many unique costumes to get candy. The students at Harrison enjoy this spooky season with it taking first place and third place in America. Students enjoy the decorations, dressing up, getting candy, and just the overall spooky vibes that this holiday brings. Senior Madison McIntyre has stated “Halloween is my favorite cause of the creativity it brings, not just in costumes or pumpkin carving but in movies as well. This is a big season for horror films and seeing brand new ideas every season makes my heart warm. The costumes are also a big deal for me cause you could make anything a costume, even corn!” Dressing up and trick-or-treating with friends is so fun no matter your age.

Gift giving, decorated houses, and the big ol’ Christmas tree that stands tall with many ornaments, garland, and of course a star that shines brightly atop the tree. Christmas is a holiday celebrated by many on the 25th of December and known religiously as the birth of Jesus Christ; but religious or not, Harrison and America think “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year.” Or, at least the second most wonderful time of the year for Wildcats, because this holiday takes second place here at Harrison High School even though it takes first in America. Most students who enjoy Christmas say they enjoy the festive atmosphere as well as the gift giving and receiving. Junior Chy Campbell says, “I love the connection that I feel with myself and the people I love during the Christmas season. Buying things for the people you love, watching their faces light up, decorating, making Christmas themed treats, playing in the snow, just everything about Christmas makes me happy.” Christmas is such a bright, happy, and fun time of the year. Giving gifts, decorating, and spending time with family and friends makes this holiday enjoyable to lots.
For America, the second-place holiday is Thanksgiving while it is one of the least popular ones at Harrison High School. Now why might the people of America like Thanksgiving more than the students? This holiday is mostly focused on spending time with your family and sometimes friends. Not much to this holiday unlike Christmas where you give and receive presents and Halloween where you can dress up and go out at night to get candy. 10th grader Brajan Sergent-Huffman says that he likes Thanksgiving but prefers Halloween because he enjoys dressing up and walking around with his friends to get candy more than sitting around at home eating. As people get older, they tend to like to spend more time with family which is why Christmas and Thanksgiving are popular among the older American citizens.
Whether you enjoy the festive vibes and gift giving of Christmas, filling up on turkey with family and friends at Thanksgiving, the spooky creatures that Halloween brings, or just enjoying the beautiful fireworks on 4th of July, these holidays are enjoyed by many people in all of America.
