Many fans last Sunday were not surprised at all by the extracurricular activity shown by Cincinnati Bengals’ Wide Receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The two have had a rivalry ever since Super Bowl LVI, when Ramsey was on the Los Angeles Rams. During the game, there were multiple moments where the two butted heads. There was a specific moment where Ramsey punched Chase seemingly for no reason, leading to Ramsey being ejected from the game. After the game, however, videos surfaced clearly showing Chase spitting on Ramsey. This led to the NFL taking action to penalize the Bengals superstar.
Ja’Marr Chase will not play this Sunday against the New England Patriots and now the NFL is revoking his $448,333 weekly paycheck in addition to his $58,823 per-game bonus, ESPN reports. “I ain’t spit on nobody.” Chase said in a post-game interview in the locker rooms. Which is technically true, because that is a double negative. He is saying “I spit on someone.” And “ain’t” is not a real word, but I digress.
Many NFL coaches and former players have called out Chase. “I have no message if someone spits in your face.” Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin says to Jalen Ramsey. Former Carolina Panthers star Quarterback, Cam Newton, calls Chase’s act “ultimate disrespect” in a YouTube Video.
What does this mean for the Bengals this Sunday against the New England Patriots? Watch out for Tee Higgins stepping up as a big player, even more than usual.
