School is supposed to be one big family, but for two people this is literally true. We have a father/son duo teaching here at Harrison High School. How do they feel about working with each other?
Meet Mr. Andrew Banks and his son Mr. Drew Banks. Mr. Andrew Banks (otherwise known as Old Banks) loves being able to work with his son. When asked if he likes teaching with his son, he answered that “It’s great!” He enjoys “getting to see him every day.” Old Banks has been teaching in this district for 33 years total, 28 at the junior high, and here at the high school for 5 years. Mr. Banks loves being able to work with his son. Now let’s see what Young Banks (sometimes called Baby Banks) has to say about working with his dad!
Young Banks loves working with his dad. He said that “it is pretty cool getting to work with my dad. We get to see each other every day, whereas before we only would see each other once or twice a week.” He has been working here for 2 years, after spending three years at the junior school. (Notice the pattern? It must run in the family.)
There is another generation of the Banks boys, and when asked if his young son might someday be a teacher Wildcat, Young Banks said that “My son told me that he did not want to be a teacher.” For a baby, that’s pretty good talking! And you never know, he might change his mind. Young Banks added that his dad “is the 3rd best looking Banks in the family.” Needless to say, Young Banks also loves working with his dad.
Some pros of working with your family are working with the people you trust and being able to make memories at work. A website made from Walden University shows the readers some pros, it states “You’ll work with people you trust. When you work with family, you have intimate knowledge of one another and instant camaraderie. Hopefully you enjoy one another’s company!” This quote tells the readers that working with people you trust creates a better working environment and will possibly make that person want to work more. Whereas a bad work environment could make people not want to work. Another quote from the Walden University website states, “You can make memories with your family. Most people spend much of their day away from their family members, working. If you work with your relatives, you’ll spend time together while also earning income.” This quote tells the readers that even when working you can still be able to make memories with family members. Making memories with family member coworkers can make a work environment positive and make people want to work more.
Some cons of working with your family can be business disputes being personal. A quote from the Walden University website states, “Business disputes can become personal. An argument at home can continue in the workplace, and a business disagreement can cause tension at home.” This quote shows the readers that disputes within family members in the business environment could become personal and continue outside the work environment or the other way around, like a personal dispute between family members outside a work environment could cause issues within a work environment between family members. This can cause people into not wanting to go to work.
But for the two Mr. Banks, this isn’t a problem. It’s all smiles for this father/son dynamic duo!
