Since July of last year, Harrison has been speculating about what store should go across from Kroger’s, and finally after a long wait, it has been revealed. Harrison is getting a Target!

Construction will begin this month with the Target being more than 128,000 square feet with a grand opening slated for 2027. According to Cincinnati Business Courier, John Silverman, co-founder and managing principal at Midland Atlantic, bought the land for $6.3 million from AJJO LLC. and then sold the Target Corp. a 10-acre parcel of the land for $2.8. million. As for the layout, there will be one grocery store, two fashion stores, a shop space, one soft goods, a miscellaneous space and one large parking lot. According to the same article, “Silverman previously told the Courier the development will be constructed all at once rather than in phases.” However, there is a slight problem; when Target is finished, the intersection of West Road and Harrison Avenue (intersection near Kroger’s and the big plot of land) could be very busy to the point where nobody can get through, and they’ll likely have to find some way to re-do the intersection to where people can get out.

Some people believe that an Aldi’s would go into the additional grocery space, while others hope for a Trader Joe’s. Although both are not guaranteed, Harper Carroll and Elizabeth Sparks-Johnson, both freshmen, were asked on their opinion. Harper stated that a Starbucks probably would go in with Target because “Usually in Targets, they have a Starbucks inside the building. A lot of people do like Starbucks.” As for Elizabeth, she stated that a few thrift stores like Plato’s Closet and Goodwill should go into the two fashion stores because “Target is expensive, and plus they don’t have many kids’ stuff. I can do a Goodwill because they have kids’ clothes, shoes and toys for a cheaper price.” She also mentioned about a laundromat “to clean your clothes while you shop or maybe clean the clothes you got”.
Target being added to Harrison is sure to change the lives, quite a lot! But only time will tell if it’s for the better or worse. How do you feel about Target coming to Harrison?
