a²+b²=cosmic brownies?
Maybe they’ve been doing quadratic equations for too long, but for whatever reason, our marvelous math department has gotten super into snack foods. This is relatable, because Little Debbies are a snack known by all and adored to an even greater degree. Who doesn’t want to snack on a star crunch or an oatmeal creme pie?
What began with colleagues sharing snacks they brought from home to help them get through hard days led to much, much more. Your favorite math teachers were so obsessed with these treats they decided to ask a question, which is the best? This is the question that began the quest set upon by the math department in 2022-2023. Through extensive consumption of many different Little Debbies, the math department has determined that the Nutty Buddy is the best Little Debbie, but how did they come to this conclusion?
It wasn’t always a serious discussion, Courtney Donath says “What started as a jovial conversation about which Little Debbie is the best (yes, we’re talking about those delightful pre-packaged snacks), turned into a joke about taste testing different Lil’ Debs, which escalated into a survey that rates each Lil’ Deb on 6 different factors of deliciousness (appearance, aroma, cake/cookie ratio, etc.)” The teachers occasionally brought in Little Debbies to survey, for every Little Debbie the teachers filled out a survey based on the products’ appearance, aroma, cake/cookie to filling ratio, texture, consistency, and overall taste rating the treat out of 5 stars. Maria Forsthoefel, a teacher in the math department who recently gave birth, named her daughter Martha Marie, but we think she missed the obvious pick of Little Debbie. That can always be her nickname!
